Kraken 2020 Season
|Hello Kraken Families!
I would like to begin by saying that I hope this email finds you and your family safe and healthy.
In my last communication to our Kraken membership (April 8th), our team was at a “wait and see” point in the season.WHALe (our league) then asked us to make a decision regarding our intention to participate in the 2020 Summer swim season.
As you’ve all heard a countless number of times, we are experiencing unprecedented times; the Kraken Board of Directors needed to make a decision that is in the best interest of our team. We all agree that the safety, health, and wellness of our Kraken swimmers and their families is and always will be our number one priority. Therefore, after considerable review and discussion of our options, we have made the decision to cancel our 2020 summer swim season. WHALe has been notified and this decision is final. I want to stress that none of the members of your Board of Director’s takes this decision to cancel lightly; we have all worked countless hours preparing for the season and we are all deeply saddened and disappointed, but I reiterate that safety comes first. Secondary to our teams safety, we took other factors into consideration such as Governor Abbott’s Executive Order (GA18) and Flewellen Pool facility availability.
We know you have questions regarding what happens next.
Refunds - We are currently in the process of working on the details regarding registration and merchandise refunds; we will communicate this process/logistics within the next few days.
Swimmer Registration for 2021 – All families who were confirmed as registered for the 2020 season will receive priority registration for the 2021 season. Current waitlisted families (as of April 28th, 2020) will get second priority registration (this will be based on openings within each age group), with new swimmers as third priority, consistent with our prior registration procedures.
Team Events - We will continue to hold Kraken Spirit Nights with local restaurants throughout the remainder of 2020; we ask for your continued support of these events, not only to help support the Kraken team but to also support local businesses. We also ask that where and when possible, you support our Sponsors; without them we couldn’t do all the amazing things for our Swim Families – see our team home page for a list of these businesses.
We will certainly miss seeing everyone at the pool this Summer, but I assure you that next Summer – 2021, will be even bigger and better for all of our Cross Creek Krakens.

As we began planning the season several months ago, none of us imagined the circumstance that we are currently facing. The COVID-19 outbreak has prompted unprecedented changes in the world and in the world of sports. There are new recommendations every day. The fluidity of the situation surely adds to the confusion and concern.
The Cross Creek Kraken Board is closely following the situation and recommendations from the federal, state, and local governments, as well as our WHALe league. We are keenly aware of the challenges that the COVID-19 outbreak will present for our team.
We would like to assure you that as we are learning to navigate these uncertain times, the Kraken Board is working on the season moving forward in this new climate and making contingency plans for several different scenarios. While we are currently in a watch and wait position, we are evaluating all options. We have time and we will be ready with our action plan.
We know that this time will end. And when it does, we will all need activities for our children and our families to join in. We have time. More importantly, we need to have hope. Our families need to have hope. We still have lots of options and although the season may not end up looking normal, we have a strong chance to still do what we all love…swim!
